Bible Study Tool 7

Here is the next installment of my Bible study tool. If you have read the earlier posts, then click the link at the bottom to read this post. If not, I invite you to check them all out by clicking the link to the 10-point Bible Study Tool. From that article you can click through to all of the articles so far.
The seventh point of the 10-point Bible Study Tool is establishing authority in Christ. Points five and six concerned denying or crucifying the old nature and edifying or building up the spiritual nature. These are opposite sides of the same coin.

It is through establishing our authority in Christ that we can accomplish both of these things.

We are Saints!

This is one of the most popular articles on my blog.

Who are we as believers? Todays Scripture, 1Corinthians 1:1-17,  will briefly explore this question.
1Corinthians 1:1-3 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother; To the church of Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.  Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ..
Most translation say we are “called to be saints,” with to be in italics. This indicates these words were added by the translators to make it read easier in english. Take them back out, here.  In most cases ...

Book Review: The Prophets of God

I recently read The Prophets of God, by John Finkbeiner,G and was impressed enough that I decided to write a review.
The premise for this book is that in the last days God is going to call some to the true office of the prophet. In the past, those called to this office had a specific purpose. Their job was to warn the people of God of impending disciplinary judgment, and to declare God’s coming wrath to unbelieving nations. They were watchmen on the wall.
There is a difference between a prophet, and a person who operates in the spiritual prophetic gifts (1 Corinthians 12). Those who operate...

10-point Bible study tool

When setting out to study the Bible, it is a good idea to have a few Bible study tools. These can greatly aid us in understanding Scripture. There are many different kinds of tools available, from Bible dictionaries to commentaries to having multiple translations. However, one of the most important study tools we can have is the knowledge how to understand and apply what we read in Scripture. It is only when the Word becomes alive and real to you that it becomes beneficial.

In previous lessons, I explained 6 Guidelines for Bible study, and how to find the seed in God’s Word. This study tool will take you a step further by showing you how to identify the purpose of each seed. This, in turn, will help you find the seed – that which can produce life.
When my pastor set members in as Bible teachers in our church, he provided us with a useful 10-point Bible study tool to help us focus our lessons. As part of our preparation, he wanted us to write an outline of each lesson and note which points were covered in each part of the lesson. Each point expresses God’s purpose or instruction for that verse or passage. These points are:
  1. For believing
  2. For understanding
  3. For building faith
  4. For application in daily living
  5. For denying self
  6. For edification of the inner man
  7. For establishing authority in Christ
  8. For renewing of the mind
  9. For relationship to Christ
  10. For relationship to others
